Joachim Piprek received his Diploma and Doctoral degrees in physics from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. He worked in industry and academia on design, simulation, and analysis of semiconductor devices used in optoelectronics. Dr. Piprek taught graduate courses at universities in Germany, Sweden, and in the United States. From 2001 to 2022, he organized the annual NUSOD conference and he also chaired or co-chaired several SPIE conferences. Besides serving as executive/associate editor for two reserch journals, Dr. Piprek was invited guest editor for several special journal issues on optoelectronic device simulation. He has published 4 books (see side panel), 7 book chapters, and about 250 papers (46 solo) with close to 10,000 citations. Recent journal publications include:

Simulation-based Machine Learning for Optoelectronic Device Design: Perspectives, Problems, and Prospects

Efficiency Models for GaN-based Light Emitting Diodes: Status and Challenges

On the Reliability of Pulse Power Saturation Models for Broad-Area GaAs-based Lasers
