| Joachim Piprek received his Ph.D. degree (Dr. rer. nat.) in theoretical physics from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. For more than two decades, he worked in industry and academia on design, simulation, and analysis of various semiconductor devices used in optoelectronics. Dr. Piprek has taught graduate courses at universities in Germany, Sweden, and in the United States. Most recently, he was an Adjunct Professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where his research focused on long-wavelength vertical-cavity lasers and on GaN-based light emitters. He currently serves as an Executive Editor of Optical and Quantum Electronics. |
| Dr. Piprek has published three books (see side panel), six book chapters, and more than 100 journal and conference publications. He is a founder and co-chair of the annual conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices (IEEE) and he also co-chairs the annual SPIE conference on Gallium Nitride Materials and Devices. Dr. Piprek was invited guest editor for special IET and IEEE journal issues on optoelectronic device simulation and he gives short courses in this field around the world. |
